The free cloud alternative to Devin

Devin pioneered the autonomous cloud engineer — at ~$2,400/yr. Freebuff Cloud covers the cloud-sandbox-and-agent part for $0.

TL;DR

  • Devin is the autonomous cloud engineer from Cognition — impressive, and ~$200/mo ($2,400/yr) at the tier where it is actually useful, with "ACU" metering on top.
  • Freebuff Cloud gives you the same skeleton — a cloud sandbox, an agent that works in it, a live preview — for $0.
  • It works on any GitHub repo, including private and team repos.
  • Devin still wins on long, fully-managed autonomous jobs. Freebuff wins on cost, transparency, and in-the-loop work.

Devin earned the hype. "Hand the agent a task, walk away, come back to a PR" is a real workflow and Cognition nailed it. The problem is the bill: the tier where Devin is more than a demo runs about $2,400/yr, and then there are ACUs. Freebuff Cloud is the $0 version of the cloud-sandbox half of that equation.

What Devin costs once you actually use it#

Devin’s entry pricing exists to get you in the door; the plan people use for real work is the ~$200/mo tier, and the agent burns "ACUs" (Agent Compute Units) on top of the subscription. Long autonomous jobs are exactly where ACUs pile up, which is a slightly cruel irony: the feature you bought Devin for is the feature that costs the most to use.

Where Devin still wins#

  • Multi-day autonomous jobs. Devin’s scheduler, retries, and "let it run overnight" model are the best in class for genuinely long-horizon work.
  • Fully managed. You do not need to think about infra, sandboxes, or previews — Devin owns the whole box.
  • The Console. Watching Devin work is a polished experience, and the session replay is genuinely useful.

Where Freebuff Cloud wins#

  • Cost. $0 vs $2,400/yr plus ACUs. For anything you sit in on (which is most cloud-sandbox work), that is hard to argue with.
  • No ACU math. You will never pause a task because you are about to burn your monthly budget.
  • Any repo + shareable preview. Connect a repo, send the preview link to a human who does not have Devin. That workflow is native here.
  • Bring projects from Lovable / Bolt / Replit. Same GitHub repo, no rewrite.

The cloud agent without the ACU meter

Connect a repo to Freebuff Cloud — sandbox, agent, live preview, $0.

Is Freebuff Cloud as autonomous as Devin?+
For in-the-loop tasks — plan, implement, verify, share — yes. For multi-day, walk-away-for-the-weekend jobs, Devin’s scheduling is still ahead. Different shape of product.
Does Freebuff have something like the Devin Console?+
The cloud project view is the console: you see the agent working, the running preview, and the repo state. No separate session replay product.
How can the cloud sandbox be free?+
Text ads cover the compute, the same way freebuff.com is free. No subscription, no card, no metering.
